Community Service

It is always nice taking a holiday to support the environment and give back to your community. This Labor Day I went for my first day of community service this morning. I have set a personal goal of 50 hours of service.

There was a beautiful orange sunrise; the sun itself was like a deep red disc, hovering above the horizon.

I am doing my service at the local landfill. There I mostly pick up stray bits of trash by the wayside.

The place was swarming with the local black vultures, who fought over scraps of meat from out the bags of trash.

Small pockets of green shrubbery along the roadside held these little red flowers. I couldn’t help but take a few shots.

Fall Semester

After returning from my spontaneous trip to Maine in the summer of last year. I enrolled for the Fall term at the Vance-Granville Community College in Franklin County. I decided to go full-time, so I won’t be going back to work anytime soon. I am taking the Business Administration degree program.

Monday was my first day back to college learning. I haven’t gone to school in 14 years and I really feel out of date and out of touch. Many of my classmates graduated high school extra early due to COVID-19 and online learning alterations.

I am enrolled in ENG-002 a prerequisite class for regular English. ACC-120 Principles of Financial Accounting and ACC-121 Principles of Managerial Accounting. Lastly, CIS-110 Introduction to Computers which is more of a broad overview of technology and digital citizenship.

I have received all of the documentation I need to start operating my new business. The company is registered in North Carolina as an LLC under the name “Bliss in Bloom: Influencers.” I am working on a nice design for my business cards and I have pre-written a recruitment letter. It just needs some work to become more concise.

I have a basic landing page setup with the business terms listed and an official email address. I bought the domain name for a year. I have until late March 2022 to get the ball rolling before I have to submit the Annual report ($200). I’d like to see a little income before then; doesn’t have to be a net profit, just some revenue.

Dragon Ball binge

I got all nostalgic for the old Dragon Ball series so I’ve been on a binge the past 3 days. It took a little while to find a site that had the whole series with English subtitles and not the Dub. The site I found is https://dragon-ball-super.xyz/

Growing up I didn’t mind Dub but while I was at college a fellow student turned me onto the Subbed versions of Anime. He insisted that you “lost” something in the translation process and that it didn’t have the same impact or feeling as the original Japanese language.

Ever since then, I’ve only watched English Subtitled anime, dramas, and variety shows in Japanese, Korean, and Chinese programming. At home, we watch dramas on Viki and Netflix. Listening to Dub now feels sort of gross. I can’t really think of a better way to explain the feeling. It’s just not the same as having the native language speakers.

Primo Pizza – Clayton, NC

With Covid related limitations easing in the state we decided to go for a drive. After a relaxed southward course along old roadways we arrived in Clayton, NC.

There are so many interconnected roads and we seemed to drive on each patch for a time. Medlin, Buffalo, Eagle Rock, Rolesville, Wendell Lake and O’Neil. Many names passed by on the trip down.

I ordered the Greek Salad (6.99) and 엄마 got an Italian Sub (6.99) and a Diet Coke (2.00). We sat inside near the broad window and ate our meal.

The parlor has a rustic feel to it with uneven tables and the ceiling which I cannot exactly describe. Old metal sheeting with embossed floral designs meeting brick walls exposed in between aged drywall.

Broken links

May 13th EDIT: It’s absolutely horrible. All the links I thought I was fixing were in fact getting broken. THEY’RE CASE-SENSITIVE. So much work to redo now and all the traffic that I sent off to 404 land, what a waste. That’s like my entire ad revenue since April lost.

I have been doing some updates and corrections to links around the site. I have fixed all of the broken links on the Game Guides page.

Updates have been made to several of the offer guides as well. The menu system has received an overhaul and I will be adding new destinations soon.

Lastly, I am on the lookout for new stomping grounds to share my guides and walk-through. Reddit has been my primary source of traffic to the site and I’d like to diversify a little.

My new Drone

Update 2021: After a few uses it found its new home in the closet. Haven’t used it in forever. Expensive toy.

So I ended up buying a DJI Mini 2. I only got the drone and I wish now that I had shelled out the extra cash for the Combo pack.

I also found out that all the SD cards I have lying around the house are outdated and incompatible. I used the MyPoints portal to go to Amazon and I bought this new memory card.

That should do for now. I may need to get a bigger one once I start doing videos for YouTube. I think for now I will just operate recreationally for my own pleasure until I am confident I won’t crash and burn.

The licensing requirements for drone operation only reference videos directly or indirectly used for profit. I think private home videos are acceptable as long as I don’t upload them I should be fine.

I will eventually go and get the exam done, but I am really bad a tests.

It’s been way too long since I was in school. I’m not sure If I’ll understand most of it even with the guides. I’ve got a ton of bookmarks now with all the related content, it’s crazy.

Drones

Update 2021: I wish I hadn’t gotten hooked on those drone videos on YouTube. This was an expensive toy I regret buying.

I’m thinking about buying a drone to take aerial photos of the local area and the small town I live in. I’ve spent much of my morning watching various YouTube videos about drones and which brands are good.

I also have some YouTube channels I am subscribed to where the Creator uses a Drone at times during their filming.

I downloaded the B4UFLY app and I have registered an account on the FAA Drone Zone website. Once I pick out a drone I will get it registered and start playing around I guess.

Really my only experience with drones was watching hobbyists in the park when I was a small boy. They would fly small planes and helicopters, it was fascinating.

Certainly, the technology has advanced considerably and I am looking forward to trying it out myself.

The possible models I am looking at are Mavic Mini

Autel Evo II Pro 6k

DJI Inspire 2

Mavic Air 2

New phone

I had some battery issues with my Samsung Galaxy S6 Active so decided to buy a new phone.

I wanted to get an S8 Active, but could not find a new one. Lots of burned screens and chipped cases on Amazon. So I relented and bought a Samsung A21s. It was about $250 and I used my credit from Swagbucks to cover the whole purchase.

I previously bought one of the A20s for my mother and she really likes it. The A21s has 4 cameras on the back and at a higher MP rate than the A20s. I like using the fingerprint sensor to access the phone and my supported apps.

I think I might try taking some videos on the phone of the birds that frequent our property. We get owls, cardinals, and red-tailed hawks here.

Bad news

My father and stepmother have tested positive for COVID-19. I was really hoping they would make it safely through the pandemic.

They are both self-isolating at their new home in WA state. “It feels like a mild cold,” my father said. They have a nice hospital in town with trustworthy staff. Still, I cannot shake my concern for they are both aged.
