I was rummaging through the attic and found this old water vessel.
It’s a good size and I am craving some good drink these days. We will start making some batches of makgeolli (막걸리) this week.
After checking recipes, there are two to try out, a regular one and another with ginger.
I’ve got too many photos of food and little to say about it. Before the meal, I take lots of shots, but afterwards I always forget to post them.
We held ancestral rites recently and there was also a feast on Halloween. There will be more large meals on my birthday and again on Thanksgiving.
I think I may make an Instagram account to post all the pictures. I am running short of space on WordPress.
We ate lunch while watching The Lord of the Rings. It included salted pork, toast, honeycomb, blackberry tart, and plenty of wine and small beer.
The preparation work for this year’s celebration of Bilbo and Frodo’s birthday are well underway. We have the banner up and the menu is set.

We also have Macha Salt for dipping.
Leafy green salad with coleslaw on the side and a parsley Bulgar salad.
Thai coconut soup with shrimp and rice noodles. Some corn and the Lemongrass we grew on the back porch.
We have also started a new batch of makgeolli. Two containers this time since we went through it so fast before.

Mama always cooks up a big spread on her birthday. She loves to cook and bake. It’s always a grand event.
We are making the Korean rice wine, makgeolli. It’s a milky white alcohol with a bit of fizz.
It’s fairly easy to make. You need sweet rice, water, regular yeast, and nuruk.
I bought all of the ingredients on Amazon using gift cards I earned using the Drop app.
You wash the rice, steam it, and then spread it out to cool. Then mix the yeast and nuruk with water. Toss it all in a jar and stir it daily. Should be ready in about 9 days.
