Taking Another Shot

I watched a video on YouTube the other day that I felt especially compelled by. It got me to stop and think a bit more about my previous YouTube channels and to reconsider posting videos.

When I decided to close GameGirlsGallery (GGG), I also deleted my ASMR and Thrifting channels as well. They other two had fewer than a hundred subscribers, so it wasn’t any real loss.

After 18 months, GGG had well over a thousand subscribers and I regularly got comments and engagement on the content I posted. The decision to close the channel was difficult, but necessary. It was the same with removing that type of content from this website (Hard Choices: Removing Site Content).

Well, yesterday, I decided to go ahead and try again with YouTube. I’m terrible with following through on plans, but I will try to do a live stream every Wednesday and a recorded video once a week.

Ideally, I would like to be able to livestream with my phone, but you need 50 subscribers to do livestreams using the YouTube app. I thought about doing it in the office, but its so messy here, I’d be quite embarrassed.

I ordered an action camera off of eBay for 20 bucks and that should arrive sometime next week if holiday traffic doesn’t slow the parcel down. Its magnetic and has a lanyard and metal pad that can fit under clothes. That will allow me to film while I am out sourcing, but still keep my hands free.

I really wanted an Insta360 Go 3S, but its way out of my price range. My wallet can’t handle anything that fancy. Hopefully, the generic I bought will be able to manage my needs.

Other than videos related to eBay, I will likely include some slideshow videos of my domestic travel blog series.

Anyways, the channel is @FatWalletRefugee (https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCMzS1MYRiA570YCdXuEEQ-g)

My Phone Service

I think we, as consumers, often complain publicly when we experience difficulties, but when things go as planned or better we rarely leave a good review. So, I wanted to take the time to say my piece.

A few years ago, I switched my mobile carrier from Consumer Cellular (CC) to Tello Mobile.

My previous phone had been included in a family plan with CC and we were paying close to $80 for three people.

We would often receive texts about going over our data limits. This would cause the plan to automatically upgrade to the more expensive plans.

I currently just have a single line with Tello and I pay just $9 per month for unlimited talk/text and 1 GB of data, which is fine for my needs. I could upgrade to the unlimited data as well and the cost would only be $25 per month.

Since the previous service with CC was a family plan, the support staff were only willing to speak with the account owner. Whenever we had an issue we would have to call my relative in another state and have them call CC for support.

Supposedly, the account was set up for any of us to call, but when we did we always got the run around despite the numerous promises otherwise by support staff.

I am glad I decided to switch my carrier and my wallet is certainly happier too.

Thanks for reading. Questions or comments put them below, and have a great day.

9 Day Streak

I’ve been racking up the points on Swagbucks lately. I am on my 9th day streak for hitting the Daily goals. I’ve done many offers that normally I would skip due to low payouts. The Cleo app even uses rude language; swearing and cussing at you. Maybe that’s trendy? I find it offensive and hurtful.

It all stacks up though and I recently got $50 in PayPal cash redemption. I have another 5000 SB and 6000 SB coming from offers Lili and Albert which complete today.

I also did some Magic Receipts deals for in-store shopping. I bought two Truly brand hard seltzer 16oz cans for $2.09 each, and got 400 SB in return. I got them at the Shell gas station and they were actually 2 for $4 so in the end it was free.

There is another Magic Receipts offer today for spaghetti sauce. Bertolli Marinara for $3.79 each and I get 600 SB back. It credited instantly with the receipt upload without needing to request a manual review.

Drones

Update 2021: I wish I hadn’t gotten hooked on those drone videos on YouTube. This was an expensive toy I regret buying.

I’m thinking about buying a drone to take aerial photos of the local area and the small town I live in. I’ve spent much of my morning watching various YouTube videos about drones and which brands are good.

I also have some YouTube channels I am subscribed to where the Creator uses a Drone at times during their filming.

I downloaded the B4UFLY app and I have registered an account on the FAA Drone Zone website. Once I pick out a drone I will get it registered and start playing around I guess.

Really my only experience with drones was watching hobbyists in the park when I was a small boy. They would fly small planes and helicopters, it was fascinating.

Certainly, the technology has advanced considerably and I am looking forward to trying it out myself.

The possible models I am looking at are Mavic Mini

Autel Evo II Pro 6k

DJI Inspire 2

Mavic Air 2

New phone

I had some battery issues with my Samsung Galaxy S6 Active so decided to buy a new phone.

I wanted to get an S8 Active, but could not find a new one. Lots of burned screens and chipped cases on Amazon. So I relented and bought a Samsung A21s. It was about $250 and I used my credit from Swagbucks to cover the whole purchase.

I previously bought one of the A20s for my mother and she really likes it. The A21s has 4 cameras on the back and at a higher MP rate than the A20s. I like using the fingerprint sensor to access the phone and my supported apps.

I think I might try taking some videos on the phone of the birds that frequent our property. We get owls, cardinals, and red-tailed hawks here.

Break time

I’m taking a week of vacation starting today. I’ll be lounging about the house watching K-dramas and playing DDO.

Although that is basically what I do every day, now I can do it without having to work in between.

I have a bunch of packages arriving from my orders on Amazon Prime Day.

I signed up for the free trial of Amazon Prime and bought the Tineco A10 Hero Stick Vacuum that I see all the time in Chinese and Korean shows.

I also bought two Fire 7 tablets, a 128GB flash drive, a 32GB micro SD card, a Microsoft Lifecam, and the Roku Ultra.

There are some other items I ordered, but at the moment I don’t recall what those were.

I spent around $300 on a variety of credit cards. I got discounts using both my personal and business AMEX cards and some of my Chase cards.

I did use my Amazon Business Prime AMEX for some buys after the discounts ran out, since I got 5% back with that one.

All of my image uploads are failing, so no pictures of the loot.

My new computer

I recently got the Rewards+ card from Citi and they had a nice bonus when you spend $1000. I got 20k points plus I’ll get a 10% bonus on redemption.

I decided earlier this month it was time for a new computer so when I saw the signup bonus I felt like the stars had aligned.

I ordered the CyberpowerPC Gamer Extreme GXI1280. It has a 4gb video card which a big step up from my old R7 360. I’m looking forward to playing in Sharn (DDO) with this computer.

Starbucks

Well, with the reward program changing tomorrow, I decided to cash out my rewards.

I have a bagful of sandwiches for lunch now. I asked the barista to pick out a bunch, as they didn’t have 7 of just 1 type of sandwich.

The register actually got stuck partway through and stopped printing receipts. However, I was able to see in my app that the rewards had been used.

Thankfully, there wasn’t a line, and the staff were very considerate despite my hefty request.
