Category Archives: Side Hustles

Common side hustles will often include work in the Gig Economy. These can be app-based services such as DoorDash, Uber, or GoPuff. Other options may be developing apps for Apple and Android devices, or creating eBooks and stationary to sell on Amazon. Further opportunities are available in closed-captioning work, AI prompt designer, completing surveys, playing games for cash, and In-Home Product Testing (iHUT).

MyPoints: Ally Bank Spending Account

This offer is for 22,000 points which comes out as roughly 146 USD. It would be a good idea to hop on this offer while the reward is still high.

Something to note is that this same offer on Swagbucks is only paying 10,000 SB which is 100 USD. So it is more valuable to complete this offer with your MyPoints account.

The offer terms are simple. You just need to open a spending account with an opening deposit of 25 USD and then set up direct deposit to the account within 60 days of account opening.

The offer says in the terms that it will not show as pending in the Activity Ledger, however, you will be able to see the little Yellow dot in your Visited list. The bank will check on the account and manually approve your offer completion after 60 days.

3 Ways to Earn Extra Income Online

Don’t you hate it when you click on a link titled like this and it turns out to either be a generic list of activities or a veiled suggestion to think for yourself?

You won’t get that here. I hate it when I fall for clickbait, and I’m sure you’ve probably run into that stuff yourself. So, I should probably get to the list.

Referral links included. Use or ignore, no worries.

1. Rev: Closed Captioning

If you have watched any videos online, you will have likely seen the CC option to enable subtitles or closed captioning.

Rev is a company that employs freelance workers to create those captions. I came across this service back in 2021, and my application was accepted after a short while.

The way it works is, after logging into your account, you can review a list of available captioning jobs and watch previews of the content. Once you find one you want, you can claim it.

There are estimates on each video for how long it is expected will take to finish the project. So, you try to finish the work within the time limit. If a job is proving difficult, you can ‘un-claim’ it and leave it for a more experienced captioner.

The service uses a ranking system to designate job availability. As you improve your captioning skills and receive good grades on your completed jobs, your rank will improve, and you can get access to higher-paying captioning tasks.

They issue payment for jobs completed each week on Fridays. Payments are sent to your PayPal account.

You need to be 18 years or older to work as a freelancer at Rev.

Here is the Eligibility article for the service.

2. Get Paid To sites

You may or may not have heard of these; they’ve been around since the early days of the dotcom boom and subsequent bust.

Generally, these types of sites are used by commercial businesses to advertise apps or digital products to highly engaged target groups. They also serve as hosts to data acquisition firms and survey issuers.

The main players in this space are Prodege, Almedia, and ironSource.

Prodege is the parent company of InboxDollars, MyPoints, and Swagbucks.

Almedia operates FreeCash, and ironSource runs Tapjoy.

Many of the offers or deals on the site can be completed for free, such as completing a survey, answering a poll, or playing a game. They also offer points for using their referral links when you shop at online retailers.

You can upload your receipts from grocery stores to get points on the items you bought. They will have special deals where you can get large chunks of points for buying specific branded items.

The sites each have different point valuations for redemption. Swagbucks is 100 points per dollar, and MyPoints is 150. FreeCash and InboxDollars both use direct USD reward amounts. All sites allow you to redeem for gift cards, PayPal, or a bank transfer. FreeCash also allows for Crypto redemptions.

The game offers are the most lucrative, in my opinion. The highest-paying game I’ve seen was $395 USD (Puzzles & Survival). You need a smartphone if you’re going to do the mobile games.

Android is preferred, but you can manage with an iPhone. The main problem with Apple devices is that the Privacy settings on them block the tracking cookies that are used to track your gameplay and completion of other types of offers. This can be disabled in settings, but updates will usually re-enable it, which could cause you to lose money.

You can see my lifetime earnings above. I joined Swagbucks in January 2020 and have earned $3833, with $3013 of that from deals and games.

Most of the platforms support users from the US, UK, Canada, and other countries. I have guides to the offers and games elsewhere on the site.

3. Payhip

I must apologize, but this last one skirts dangerously close to “think for yourself.”

Payhip is a selling platform primarily for digital goods and services. I started using it after I ran into problems with Amazon Publishing. I have used Payhip to publish a free digital magazine.

I actually made more money with Kindle Unlimited. However, after a while, it became too much trouble because they kept sending me mixed signals about which categories my content should be listed in.

This option for making money is less certain than the two previous choices I provided. With this avenue, you will need something to sell.

  • If you have some insight into a particular subject, maybe you could put together a course teaching the topic and sell that.
  • Have a large photo collection? You might consider packaging it all up for sale as stock imagery and slap a price on the download.

There are websites where you can try to sell stock imagery, but the competition is intense. I think you would have a better shot if you promoted your collection on WordPress.

That is it for my list of “3 Ways to Earn Extra Income Online.” I hope it has been of some use to you.

Please let me know in the comments if you have any other ideas for making money online. I’d love to get your insights.

Swagbucks – Afk Arena

AFK Arena

Introduction: AFK Arena is one of the more visually appealing game offers on Swagbucks. The developer has spent quite a bit of energy on polishing the game and there have been some franchise crossover events due to the game’s worldwide popularity. I’ll write the guide based on your expectations of getting the best terms of Legendary+ in 30 days. Don’t forget to Like and Follow.

  • Offer Terms: There have been a couple different flavors of requirements for this game over the years. The basic requirement You may find is to get a Legendary+ hero. More difficult requirements ask for a Mythic or Mythic+ hero.
  • Expected rewards should be between $25 to $60 for completing the offer. Watch out for lower rewards from some of the lesser offer walls.
  • Time limits for the offers can be 14 days, 25 days, or 30 days. I would say 25 days is the minimum if you don’t to spend any money completing the offer. The 14 can be done but it will require spending more than $25. If the reward is 50-60 then that may be acceptable to you.

Heroes: You get new heroes mostly by summoning them at the Tavern. There are 2 Summoning Scroll types and a Friendship Summon option. The Basic Scroll will give you a random hero of any faction and the Advanced Scroll will give you a random hero from a specific faction.

If you collect 100 Hearts from players on your friends list you can summon 10 heroes, the same as the Basic Scrolls. The faction of the advanced summon changes each day and can be seen on the Tavern screen at the bottom.

Various shops in Rantarn offer additional ways to exchange for Purple heroes that may aid you in completing the offer terms. It is best to focus on a single Faction since you are limited in resources.

You can pay Diamonds to switch to a specific faction before completing your advanced summons. It is highly suggested you only complete summons in groups of 10 for improved odds of getting Purple (Elite) heroes. Diamonds can also be used to summon heroes and I would suggest saving up your Diamonds for this purpose.

Evolution Guide: There are 6 Ranks for heroes in the game. Green (Common), Blue (Rare), Purple (Elite), Yellow (Legendary), Red (Mythic) and White (Ascended). There are also 3 Tiers for leveling your heroes: Common, Legendary, and Ascended.

The Green ones are junk and can be exchanged at the Rickety Cart for fodder. You want the Purple ones as they can go up to Legendary+ for the offer. The Blues will be ascended to be used as ingredients for making your Legendary+ hero.

Mirael

There are a few Purple heroes that you will receive as a freebie during the first week and these are your best bet for completing the offer. The Lightbearers are the easiest to work on to complete the offer terms. You get the elite+ hero Belinda on Day 7 of the login event.

May 14th EDIT: I started a new account and have found that it is no longer Belinda. Other wikis still list Belinda. This will make the offer more difficult.

The steps for ascensions are as follows. To make a Rare+ hero you need 2 copies of the same hero at Rare rarity plus the one that will be upgraded. So 3 copies total. The Rare+ can be combined with another Rare+ of the same faction to make an Elite (Purple). To go from Elite to Elite+ you just need another copy of the same Elite hero. Upgrading the Elite+ to Legendary will require you to collect two other Elite+ from the same faction. Legendary+ is much easier to upgrade, you only need to get an Elite+ copy of that same hero to use as upgrade material. So for example, if I had Belinda up to Yellow and wanted to upgrade her I would need to get 2 more Belinda’s at the Purple stage and combine them to make an Elite+. The Elite+ Belinda would be fed to the Yellow Belinda to make a Yellow+.

In total, you will need 72 rare heroes as fodder and 8 Elites (4 copies of the same elite and 4 as fodder). The chosen hero does need to be one that can reach the Yellow tier. In the image below we see 2 blues and 3 purples, of the purples pictured only Rosaline would be useable for the offer. The other 2 purples are just lucky draws of Rare tier heroes and they would be saved as fodder for making the Legendary stage hero.

I would like to note that the Facebook share option will reward you and should be used every time it is available. Most importantly it still works even if you don’t have Facebook installed on your phone. There are a few other games where this holds true and you can get “Sharing” rewards without spamming your poor Facebook friends.

Returning to the above image example; If I wanted to make Rosaline my Legendary+ hero I would get another Elite copy of her and combine them to make an Elite+ version. Next, I would get another purple Ogi and Ira combining them to make 2 Elite+ as fodder. They would be fed to the Elite+ Rosaline and she would then become Legendary (yellow). The last step would be to collect 2 more Purple Rosaline’s which would be combined into an Elite+ Rosaline and then fed to the Yellow Rosaline who then would become a Legendary+ Rosaline. That would complete the offer terms.

Fan Art: Masks

Daily tasks: Scrolls, Diamonds, and Soul stones can be acquired each day and every week by completing the regular quests. You also have Guild daily tasks you can complete which will reward you with fodder.

Tips on heroes: For combat, you want to place your Tanks to the front and your casters/DPS to the back. A single healer should be all you need to keep the group healthy. You will get Faction bonuses to your hero’s stats depending on the mix in the group. I favored Lightbearers initially but later mixed in the Wilder heroes. Tasi the little fairy has a Stun ability which gives your heroes time to trigger their big moves like group healing, invulnerability AoE damage, and DoT’s.

Events: The events run weekly and monthly and will offer chances at Purple Heroes and Diamonds. There are also Freebies available in the Store so check there often. Gift codes are frequently made available by the developer. Gift code: AFKMarkiplier is usable until June 2021.

If you need guides to Combat or other game functions not covered in this Offer Guide you can check out the AFK Arena Wiki. If you found any use in my guide please give a Like and a Follow.

Game of Kings: The Blood Throne

Another successfully completed offer on Swagbucks. This one was through Revenue Universe on a double-point special and rewarded 1,952 SB. A 30-day time limit, requiring you to reach level 21 Stronghold. I spent $1.56 on a Vanilla GC and $8.44 on Google Play Credit.

Offer Page

There is a guide on Reddit for this game but I found some of the information to be outdated including the promo code “FROMZEROTOHERO” which is no longer applicable. Additionally, there have been significant increases in resource requirements to reach level 21.

I had a rough time with this one. There are scant few websites with information or guides to this game. Mostly Google searches would say “Did you mean Game of Thrones?”. There is a Fandom wikia page for the game but it looks half built and the icons are all swapped around.

Game of Kings (GOK) is an upright/vertical castle simulation smartphone game available on both iOS and Android. Similar to other games of this type you have both a Citywide and world map (kingdom) viewpoint.

The tutorial is short and ends at Stronghold level 5. After that your beginner peace shield drops and you can be attacked by other players. The shields are especially important in GOK. Not only can your excess resources be stolen but your Hero can be captured, potentially setting you back a great deal of time.

GOK is a more combat oriented castle sim compared to others like Mafia Wars, Avalon, Rise of Kingdoms or Pirates of the Caribbean. In GOK there are no Forts or Tower’s to provide territory to your Alliance. The only protection available is from the shields which are available in 8hr, 24hr, 3day and 30day versions.

At stronghold level 15 you can build a Prison and capture enemy heroes. Once you build the Altar you can execute heroes to get a big boost. You will commonly see high level players teleporting around and attacking people without shields. During the weekly “Killing” event they become especially active.

In GOK you only have one hero who represents your player level to some degree. You get 5 Citywide Stat points and 1 Hero skill point at each level up. The citywide skills affect things like resource collecting speeds or research timers. Hero skill points give boosts to your hero and allow you to Hunt higher-level Monsters.

Your hero is primarily used to hunt monsters in GOK. It is possible to use the hero to lead resource-gathering marches but this is strongly advised against. If your match is attacked you can lose your hero.

If your hero is captured they will be stuck in prison for 4 days unless they are executed or you pay $20/$100 to “poison” them. If killed you can either spend 6k Gold to resurrect the hero or get a new level 1 hero and start over.

Beyond a hero’s skill points, you can craft gear to gain various bonuses. Some gear is better suited to Army combat while other gear focuses on buffing the hero’s fighting ability when attacking monsters. Other gear gives bonuses to Construction speed, resource production efficiency, and research timers.

Each time you upgrade your Stronghold you will receive a chest with beneficial items inside. Hero gear is included with these chests if you decide not to craft gear. I do want to mention that I did not see any additional discount on building timers when equipping Construction time reduction gear. Some items listed -20mins and -90mins timer reductions but I checked the timers with the gear on/off and there was no difference. The only reductions on timers I can confirm are the % %-based time discounts and the VIP level discounts.

It took me 14 days to complete the offer but in that time I never received enough VIP point items to gain a VIP level. I purchased the $4.99 starter pack which brought my hero to level 31, VIP-7, and gave me lots of crafting chests, speedups and resources. Later on, a similar pack showed up for the same price.

Alliances in GOK can be up to 100 members. Joining a large mostly active alliance is very beneficial. The assistance on timers from guild mates is useful. There are daily and weekly events for Alliances that give many boosts that will help along the way. The main benefit is the Alliance Gifts. Killing monsters will earn a chest for all Alliance members which contains a random item. Sometimes this can be resources, speedups, or even Gold.

Since I was only interested in completing the offer I crafted gear to reduce construction time and boost resource production. Having a big Farm production will allow you to maintain a big army to harvest resources. I had 120k tier 1 swordsmen who were able to harvest 1 million resources each hour.

Avoid building other troops as they are less efficient at harvesting and cost more. On your skills make sure to get Construction 1+2, Gathering 1+2, and Research 1+2. Later once you have finished the cheap research you can use a skill reset item and put points into Stone and Wood production and not bother with the research.

The timers in GOK are especially long and fairly early in the game. On the first day, I saw some research that required 5 days to complete. You will need to collect many speedup items to get this done in time.

On the world map, you will see farms, quarries, smelters, and lumber mills. There are also Spoils locations where you can harvest Gems, crafting Materials, and Gold. At the edges of the map, all the sites are level 1. They increase in level up to 6 near the center of the map.

The weekly Loki event requires that you teleport your city next to one of the lava zones near the center. You can attack the monster Loki to get Mental Shards which can be exchanged at the Black Market in town for items. The Loki event first tier may be achievable if you get in a good spot and have patience. I got up to 70/180 attacks before I gave up. I had enough time left to finish it but I was super bored.

You want to be right next to Loki but on the grass. If your march touches the forest you get slowed down. From my first location, it took 4 minutes to attack, after moving I got it down to 1:23mins. Even if you are far to the side, as long as you are on the grass, it will be faster to travel.

You can time the building event and the Endless event together to maximize your rewards. There is also a Stronghold upgrade event that you can finish regularly. The stronghold event will give you speedups until level 15, then you get resources only.

The game does not have a search function for monsters or resource sites so you will need to scroll around the map to find stuff. You can use coordinates to bookmark things and share locations in the chat window.

The game features a Coffer where you can deposit 100 Gold and get interest on it after 2 hours. Upgrading the Coffer requires you to make purchases in the store.

The building resource requirements and the building timers have been extended. This makes completing the offer quite difficult. In the Reddit guide the final upgrade is listed as 150 days, this has gone up to 177 days plus more resources are needed.

I do not think I would have been able to finish the game without buying another $4.99 pack. I could not harvest enough resources to meet the requirements to upgrade the Stronghold. I did get some resources from my Alliance members but even with that, I faced a great deal of difficulty.

After I completed the offer, I sent out marches to all my alliance members returning excess resources from the pack I bought. I got 1,952 Swagbucks for completing this offer from Revenue Universe. I have a lifetime earnings of 416,467 SB.

You check out my site page for more games and offer guides to Swagbucks.

Swagbucks: Arknights

This game is a big download at 1.56GB and 1.74GB in updates at first boot. The offer is small at only 500 SB, and you have to complete over 32 missions in the campaign. You are given 7 days to complete chapters 2-10 and it should be pending for 7 days.

A small hiccup

The install said it was finished but the game crashed at the load screen and then said it wasn’t installed. I went back to the Play Store and sure enough, it said “Install” even though I could clearly see the game in my installed apps list.

Terms from Swagbucks:

  1. Does not require a purchase.
  2. Must complete chapters 2-10 within 7 days to earn the award.
  3. The award should be Pending for 7 days after completing Chapter 2.10

An all-new strategy game – Arknights, is available now! Start your new journey with new allies! Complete chapter 2-10 to earn 500 SB.*

Game Launcher Panel

There is a large Arknights community on Reddit where you can find lots of helpful information, and some unhelpful information as well.

Background Music

I think the first thing I did was mute the game. The music is cool but repetitive I was looking for the mute option pretty fast.

The whole game is just a top-down view with tiles where you try to block mobs from entering your goal area. Best not to overthink these types of games.

Heavyweight Design

It’s absurd that it takes 3.4GB to handle such a basic functioning game. Really most of that data is all the artwork and endless mind-numbing dialog that is included.

Gameplay

Once you finish some of the tutorials the Auto-Deploy function becomes available to repeat a mission on autopilot to grind out rewards.

You still have to watch the battle play out but you won’t need to interact with it. The game includes Daily, Weekly, and Event objectives to complete to get Experience items and money.

Once the tutorial is complete you get access to the Base building, which is a sort of mini-economic zone with factories, workshops, and break rooms. The resources for upgrading stuff are all either made here or gained from missions.

You should be able to just grind through the campaign so long as you don’t get distracted by the other missions that show up.

To upgrade your Operators (heroes) there are materials you get from doing side missions for Chips, Ore, and Sugar. But you don’t need to do these to complete the Main Campaign objectives.

Just use your Experience items to max out the level of 8 Operators. You can choose 12 to include in a squad but only 6-8 will actually get used in a battle. You’ll run out of money fast doing this so be warned.

Lineup Suggestions

I’d suggest including a Debuffing (Slow) operator like Orchid on the team and matching her with a good caster like Amiya.

  • Gravel is an easy starter and can be improved using duplicate copies to lower her deployment costs.
  • Cardigan is a good tank that can block 3 units and she heals herself.
  • Beanstalk has a summon that halts mobs while she shoots them, she also adds DP points over time.
  • Zima can block 2 enemies and she fills your DP bar.
  • Gummy is another good tank and she heals herself or a wounded ally in range.
Final Thoughts

This offer takes a really long time to finish. The Chapter progression is not set, it’s not 12 missions per section. The first part (Tutorial) is 18 missions, then 15 parts for chapter 1.

There could be up to 4 side missions before 2-04 moves to 2-05. So reaching Chapters 2-10 takes a whole lot more activity than you might expect, especially for only 500 SB.

Swagbucks: Crossfire Warzone

Update 2024: I am sad to report that the developer has pulled the game from the Play Store and shut down the game. No idea if it will come back.

Crossfire Warzone Character Gallery

This took 3 days to complete. Requirements were to reach the level 18 command post in 25 days.

I got to level 15 on the first day by spamming my speedup items.

You get 1000 gold for joining your first alliance, which is nice. In this game, you can buy your way up through the VIP ranks using in-game gold.

The Honor/VIP ranks give various discounts and bonuses. I would suggest going up to rank 7 at the most.

I found it was not necessary to make a farm City for this game. Killing monsters or terrorists provided more than enough resources to complete upgrades.

There are 4 things you can attack, and 3 of them use different types of stamina.

You have resource buildings in town, and animals in the woods can be killed for food. You can harvest resources from buildings on the world map.

Attacking Terrorists or Scavengers will give resources. Fighting the M.O.W.s gets you crafting supplies for commander gear.

Your units are infantry, tanks, and helicopters. The tanks and helicopters don’t cost food to build.

I found that the resource-carrying capacity was reliant on the Hero assigned rather than the number of troops deployed.

Sending just 1 unit and 4 Heroes did better than 1 hero with max troops.
