Leisure Time

Bloganuary writing prompt
What do you enjoy doing most in your leisure time?

Well I do spend an inordinate amount of time on the computer, but I’d like to cut back on this if I can.

What I really enjoy doing is watching Korean Dramas and Variety Shows.

I started out with Dragon Ball Z and Gundam as a child not quite realizing these were foreign programs.

Once I got to the Job Corps Center I met a lot of Anime fans and really broadened my horizon’s. I even heard some G-Dragon tracks, but at the time I didn’t know it was Korean music.

Around 2008, I mistakenly began watching a live-action Japanese drama called Moyashimon. I had thought it was an anime based on the cover and synopsis.

This was my first taste of live-action Asian television. Afterwards I began downloading batches of Japanese TV and Movies in torrent files from a site called D-Addicts.

Sometime in 2009 just after Dungeons and Dragons went free-to-play, I can remember joining a party and it said in the social panel (Listening to Music), The party leader explained that his friend was a K-pop fan and that there would be music playing in the background as we played.

This was my official introduction to Korean music. The music playing was by the group Girls Generation (SNSD), I became hooked on their music. I completely stopped listening to Reggae, the Beatles, and Indi-Pop.

My first Korean drama was the period piece Hong Gil-dong (쾌도 홍길동), I then watched The Chaser, and a few movies.

I tried keeping a list of all the shows I have watched, but I forgot to save the file once when i reinstalled Windows, and another time the flash drive I had it on went through the washing machine, and then the next computer died. I have lost many lists and forgotten the names of much of what I have watched.

Currently, I am quite happily watching I Am Solo and the spinoff I Am Solo, Love Forever. Also, I have been keeping up with Running Man, My Little Old Boy, and Hangout with Yoo.

I can remember when Survivor and American Idol first aired. I didn’t understand why everyone was so excited with the shows. I couldn’t see the appeal of Reality television shows back then.

But I get it now. I don’t think I’ll ever grow bored of watching variety shows.
